Project Description

Breakthrough in Chilean Market and Building Code Adaptation

After a period of investigation and research, Chengdong has made a breakthrough in meeting Chilean building codes and has gained valuable experience with the country’s unique geographical environment. Chengdong’s container house and Flatpack modular houses have received high recognition from partners, and its first Flatpack modular house exhibition hall has landed in Santiago, the capital of Chile, marking a new chapter with confirmed product quality.

Chile’s Economic and Mining Landscape

Chile, rich in mineral resources, is a leader in mining investment and copper mining is a critical pillar of its economy. The country’s copper reserves reach about 150 million tons (nearly 30% of global reserves), and copper production accounts for one third of the world’s output. Chile's economy is developing steadily: as of 2017, the total GDP was 277.076 billion USD, ranking first in South America.

Chengdong’s Visit to El Teniente Copper Mine

Chengdong’s South American project development team visited the Coya campsite at the El Teniente copper mine near Rancagua, Chile. The campsite accommodates 1,700 people simultaneously and is a high-standard mining camp with 21 buildings. Facilities include a management office building, standard accommodation for senior management, worker and on-site manager housing, activity room, recreation room, general hospital, laundry, canteen-kitchen, drinking water and sewage treatment stations—all fully equipped hotel-style. Catering and laundry services are fully provided so workers can focus on work without concerns.

Accommodation and Facilities Overview

During visits with local engineers, the teams inspected worker and manager accommodations. Rooms are spacious, bright, and comfortable—the worker area includes shared toilets and showers, while managers enjoy private facilities. Local laws require at least 10 cubic meters per worker, ensuring comfort for all.

Seismic-Resistant Dining and Living Spaces

The canteen uses steel structure materials for durability and is fitted with seismic components to resist Chile’s frequent earthquakes. Dining and operation areas are clearly zoned, facilities are complete, and smoke exhaust systems prevent cooking activities from affecting air quality in the dining area. A wide variety of food and beverages guarantees meal quality for employees.

Recreation rooms add vibrancy to camp life, with table tennis and other activities enriching daily life and relieving boredom.

Strengthening Cooperation Under the “Belt and Road” Initiative

By invitation from Mr. Carlos, President of D&C Group, Chengdong’s development team attended the launch ceremony for the La Divisa intermodal station in San Bernardo, a railway connection serving Santiago and the port of San Antonio. This event, held in the context of the “One Belt One Road” initiative, lays a logistics foundation for China-Chile trade and reduces logistics costs for container house products entering Chile.

Chile’s Minister of National Transportation, Ms. Gloria Hutt, and Minister of National Economy, Mr. José Ramón Valente, alongside partners from the US, Peru, and China, attended.

Chengdong’s Container House Exhibition Hall in Santiago

After the event, site visits and discussions on installation progress were held at the Chengdong box-style container house exhibition hall, and relevant experience shared. The exhibition hall acts as a locomotive, driving future cooperation forward.

Expanding Market Confidence and Future Prospects

These Chilean visits left a deep impression of the country's stable economic development and the huge prospects for copper mining projects. With industry growth, demand for engineering camps and container house solutions is certain to rise, enhancing confidence in the Chilean market.

Chengdong reached a preliminary cooperation intention with D&C Group’s smart module company and actively joined local project bidding, paving the way for mutually beneficial and win-win results.
