Project Features:

1. Extreme Gobi wind corridor at the Turpan Basin project site

Located in the eastern section of the Turpan Basin in Xinjiang, the project site is exposed to an extreme Gobi wind corridor, with Force 8 gales or above recorded on more than 160 days per year and instantaneous wind speeds reaching up to Force 14. These conditions impose stringent requirements on the wind‑resistant design of the modular camp, including structural bracing, foundations and envelope performance to ensure long‑term stability under repeated high‑wind events.news.climate.

2. Gobi Box cabins with optimized panels and upgraded multi-layer sealing

To address this environment, the project adopts Chengdong’s independently developed Gobi Box cabins, which feature optimized roof and wall panel configurations specifically engineered for desert and Gobi climates. The entire cabin system integrates upgraded multi-layer sealing technology at panel joints, doors and windows to effectively block wind‑driven sand and dust, helping maintain a clean, comfortable indoor environment for office, accommodation and dining functions.

3. Enhanced snow load and wind-resistance for all‑weather safety baseline

Furthermore, the structural configuration, roof and wall assemblies of the Gobi Box cabins have been significantly enhanced to deliver higher snow load capacity and wind‑resistance ratings. This all‑weather reinforcement enables the camp to withstand Gobi blizzards, violent storms and other extreme climate events, establishing a solid, engineering‑grade safety baseline for long‑term project operation in Xinjiang’s Turpan Basin.

Project Description

Located in the eastern section of the Turpan Basin in Xinjiang, the Xinjiang Shanshan Huaneng Loulan 1GW Wind Power Project faces one of the region’s most demanding climate environments. With Force 8 gales or above occurring for more than 160 days each year and instantaneous wind speeds reaching Force 14, the site places exceptionally strict demands on camp buildings in terms of structural stability, envelope performance and long-term durability.

To support continuous wind power construction under these conditions, the project adopted Chengdong’s climate-adapted modular camps approach with Gobi Box cabins as the core product solution. With a total camp area of approximately 2,510 square meters, the system integrates offices, accommodation and dining functions into an efficient operational base for on-site teams.

Gobi Box solution engineered for extreme Gobi winds and sandstorms

The most important feature of this project is the deployment of Chengdong’s Gobi Box solution, a specialized container house system developed for desert and Gobi environments. Rather than using a generic temporary camp layout, the project prioritizes a climate-specific product strategy built around reinforced steel structure, enhanced sealing and better all-weather load performance.

  • The wall and roof systems are optimized with reinforced square tube and angle steel members to increase stiffness under sustained high wind loads.

  • Critical wall sections around windows are strengthened, and the roof incorporates grid-style reinforcement to improve overall structural integrity.

  • Adjacent Gobi Box units are connected with dedicated structural connectors so that the full building system performs as an integrated whole under repeated gale exposure.

  • Anti-wind fixing components at the column footings strengthen the connection between each cabin and the foundation, reducing displacement risk during violent storms.

Multi-layer sandproof sealing protects indoor comfort

Sand and dust intrusion is one of the most critical risks for long-term camp operation in the Turpan Basin. In response, the Gobi Box cabins used in this project incorporate upgraded multi-layer sealing technology across wall joints, roof interfaces, door and window openings, and other key enclosure transitions.

This sealing strategy effectively blocks wind-driven dust from entering interior spaces, helping maintain a cleaner and more comfortable environment for office work, accommodation and dining. For remote infrastructure projects, this level of enclosure performance also supports lower maintenance pressure on interior finishes and equipment while reinforcing the value of climate-ready modular housing in harsh operating environments.

Enhanced snow load capacity extends Gobi Box performance

Although the project is located in a dry Gobi zone, the camp must also withstand winter blizzards, sudden temperature shifts and combined wind-snow loading. To address this challenge, the roof and wall panel assemblies of the Gobi Box cabins were further optimized to improve snow load performance while maintaining efficient transport and installation efficiency.

By combining higher wind-resistance ratings with stronger snow load capacity, the project establishes a more reliable safety baseline for year-round use. This makes the Xinjiang Shanshan Huaneng Loulan 1GW Wind Power Project a high-value reference for prefabricated camp solutions in demanding wind power, mining and infrastructure environments.

Functional space planning for long-term project use

Inside the structural system, the camp follows Chengdong’s standardized engineering camp layout logic to support efficient project operations. Office zones are configured for daily administrative work, while the dining area adopts more refined interior detailing, including suspended ceilings and bamboo-wood fiber wall panels, to create a cleaner and more comfortable shared environment for project teams.

Supported by the Gobi Box enclosure system, the camp balances rugged external protection with livable interior performance. This combination helps the site maintain both operational efficiency and staff comfort in a high-wind wind farm construction setting.
