Project Background

In 2018, Chengdong successfully delivered the Phase II container office project for Tata Steel Plant in India, marking the company’s third collaboration with Tata. The project included three observation point offices and three staff canteens across different plant locations, totalling 48 units of 20ft container houses in single-story and double-story configurations, providing office and dining solutions for hundreds of employees.

Technology and Product Highlights

The project utilised state-of-the-art modular construction technology:

• Container House Design: The 20ft container units were designed as prefabricated modular houses, allowing independent use or flexible horizontal and vertical combinations to form multi-story structures.

• Modular Components: Units were factory-prepared with pre-installed electrical wiring, plumbing, insulation, and interior finishes, ensuring rapid on-site assembly.

• Lightweight Steel Framework: Each container house uses high-strength steel frames for structural stability, durability, and disaster resistance.

• Environmental Adaptability: The modules are suitable for a wide range of climatic conditions, including high heat, humidity, and tropical storms.

• Ease of Transport and Installation: Standardized dimensions and pre-fabrication allow easy shipment and quick stacking/assembly, reducing construction time and labor costs.

From planning, design, and production to inspection, shipping, and on-site installation, Chengdong demonstrated its industry-leading expertise in mobile and modular housing. All processes were strictly monitored to ensure high-quality standards, durability, and long-term functionality.

Resilience Against Extreme Weather

In May 2019, Tropical Cyclone Fani struck Odisha, India. Despite strong winds and heavy rainfall, Chengdong container units remained fully intact, proving the reliability of the modular container house technology and exceeding Tata Steel’s expectations.
