On October 27, 2018, the handover ceremony for 1,000 sets of prefabricated houses aided by the Chinese government to Myanmar was held at the Port of Dilowa in Yangon. The project marked an important milestone in China–Myanmar cooperation, symbolizing not only humanitarian assistance but also a deepening partnership under the Belt and Road Initiative.
Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Hong Liang and Myanmar’s Deputy Minister of Construction Kyaw Lin signed the handover certificate on behalf of both governments. Ambassador Hong Liang officially transferred the materials to Myanmar’s Minister of State Affairs and Government Kyaw Dingrui, witnessed by key officials including Yangon Province Chief Minister Piao Mindeng, Deputy Minister of Social Welfare and Relief So Ang, and Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy Xie Guoxiang.
The Myanmar government emphasized that China’s assistance of 1,000 prefabricated houses provided essential support for resettling displaced residents in Rakhine State. After years of instability, safe and durable housing became a top priority. The delivery of these modular units enabled the Myanmar government to accelerate resettlement efforts while ensuring living comfort and stability for affected communities.
The 1,000 sets of prefabricated houses were designed and manufactured by Beijing Chengdong International Modular Housing Corporation, a leading enterprise specializing in integrated housing solutions. Chengdong leveraged its advanced factory-prefabrication and modular assembly technologies to ensure each unit met high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
Each prefabricated house was engineered for rapid installation, thermal insulation, and structural stability—making them ideal for humanitarian aid and post-disaster resettlement scenarios. By adopting modular design and standard-sized components, Chengdong optimized both transportation and on-site assembly, significantly reducing the overall construction time.
From the initial design to final shipment, Chengdong’s project team worked closely with both Chinese and Myanmar authorities to meet strict timelines. The prefabricated houses were produced in Chengdong’s advanced manufacturing base, carefully packaged, and transported to Myanmar by sea. At the Port of Dilowa, teams coordinated the offloading and handover procedures to ensure smooth transition to local construction units for installation and use.
This project not only provided immediate housing relief but also demonstrated the practical benefits of prefabricated house solutions in international aid and reconstruction. By offering quick-deploy, high-quality housing, Chengdong helped thousands of displaced families rebuild their lives in a safer and more dignified environment.
Beyond infrastructure, the project strengthened mutual trust and friendship between China and Myanmar. It showcased China’s commitment to humanitarian support and Chengdong’s capability to deliver reliable prefabricated house systems for large-scale government and NGO projects worldwide.
The Chinese Government Aid Project in Myanmar stands as a successful example of how prefabricated house technology can contribute to disaster recovery and social stability. With decades of experience in global modular construction, Chengdong continues to support international development efforts by providing innovative housing solutions that are fast, efficient, and sustainable.
